In-person or online?

How they compare.

Online learning isn't a replacement for hands-on training where practical assessment is required — but it's perfect alongside it. Here's how we'd think about which to choose for what.

Pick online when…

  • It's an awareness or theory course — no practical assessment needed (e.g. fire awareness, COSHH, safeguarding).
  • You want flexible timing — onboarding, induction, refresher between in-person courses.
  • You're rolling out across a whole team — every learner at their own pace, no venue coordination.
  • Budget matters — online unit cost is typically a fraction of an in-person seat.
  • You need a record fast — certificates issued on completion, no waiting for a course date.

👥Pick in-person when…

  • Practical assessment is required — HSE-recognised FAW/EFAW, Level 3 Paediatric First Aid, IOSH Managing Safely all need live delivery.
  • You want it shaped to your workplace — your floor plan, your hazards, your real loads, your real fire risks.
  • Scenario practice is important — running mock evacuations, manual handling with real equipment, CPR practice on a manikin.
  • You're training designated roles — fire marshals, designated first aiders, line managers responsible for others' safety.

Want a blend of both?

Many teams use online for whole-workforce awareness plus in-person for designated responders. Tell us what you're after and we'll quote a combined programme.
